Christmas Explosion

Believe it or not this store (Hand of Man) looks like this all year round not just at Christmas.  There are displays of all different color families set up to what seems like excess yet they always manage to put all these pieces together and have it look just right.

By a Neck

#6 To Honor and Serve beats out the favored #3 Mucho Macho Man by a neck to win the $750,000 purse in the 59th running of the Woodward at Saratoga Racetrack.  See my pick #7 Cease who ceased running I guess and ended up in 3rd.

Though this is not in Binghamton, it does show one the places that you can get to for a day trip from Binghamton.

2012 Chris Thater Memorial Criterium

Binghamton is lucky to have a professional cycling race every year.  So much fun to watch the cyclists hit the turns in our roads in speeds that seem way to fast to navigate successfully with other cyclists within inches of them.

The Chris Thater Memorial is dedicated in memory of Chris Thater, an avid cyclist, who was killed by a drunk driver. The event is a project of the Broome County STOP-DWI Program to heighten awareness about the drunk-driving problem. The race attracts over 1,500 participants from local athletes to world-class competitors with crowds of over 10,000 spectators. The Chris Thater Memorial consists of the Pro, Elite and Novice cycling events, and a national class 5K Run.

Cutlery Garden

In my neighborhood, this garden blooms in a different color every year
and the best part is that you don't have to water it.

Maybe I should have been a late bloomer...

We were fortunate to have two weeks of early summer weather in March this year and all the plants decided to start blooming.  Unfortunately the cold is not done with us yet and we have had temps dip below freezing this week causing some of our flowering trees to get a little too frosty.   Guess there is something to be said for being a late bloomer.

March to Your Own Drummer

This band marched in the St Patrick's Day parade.    I don't know their name or where they are from, but they always have the best costumes.   Alice in Wonderland theme this year - notice the Cheshire Cat on the right.

Parade Day

"Parade Day"

.... as it's called in Binghamton ends up as one the largest holidays of the year.   It's scheduled a couple of weeks before St. Patrick's Day so that we can get all the bagpipers and the whole city becomes Irish.

Kampai Orange

This after dinner treat was offered up by the sushi chef at Kampai  - our local Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar.  It's amazing how fancy an orange can taste when its prepared so nicely for you.

1910

I walk this sidewalk all the time and just noticed the other day that it had  a year stamped into it.    A few wrinkles but not looking too bad for 100+ years.

George F Johnson

Someone placed a few spring flowers in this statue of George F. Johnson
that is at Recreation Park in Binghamton.
