Leftover Snowman

I ran into this snowman while out for a walk.
Thought he was still pretty cute even though he had melted a bit.
Lemons for eyes - clever.

Little Venice

One of the several "Italian" Restaurants in Binghamton.  Though there are no canals here and I am not so sure the food bears any resemblance to Venetian cuisine, it is a popular restaurant with many loyal supporters.

The building is now uninhabited but the Binghamton Psychiatric Hospital operates in the outlying buildings

Perry who was later the chief architect for the State Capitol Building in Albany, NY.   Sherman D. Phelps was a banker, Republican Elector for Abraham Lincoln and mayor of the City of Binghamton. The building was purchased in 1905 by the Monday Afternoon Club.  It later transferred ownership to the Phelps Mansion Foundation, but the civic organization still holds its meetings there.

Boot plaque along the Chenango River Promenade that commemorates the legacy of Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company known as EJ's.  It was once a leading manufacturer of shoes and boots and an early proponent of welfare capitalism.   It is said that many immigrants came to this country knowing only the phrase "Which way EJ" in the hopes of finding work in this place they had heard about.  Both of my grandfathers worked for this company that no longer exists.  We have many old empty abandoned factories that remain as reminder to what once was.

Parlor City

Formerly the mansion of Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood B Davidge.

Binghamton became known as the Parlor City in the late 19th Century due to it having a large number of stately mansions.
