2012 Chris Thater Memorial Criterium
Binghamton is lucky to have a professional cycling race every year. So much fun to watch the cyclists hit the turns in our roads in speeds that seem way to fast to navigate successfully with other cyclists within inches of them.
The Chris Thater Memorial is dedicated in memory of Chris Thater, an
avid cyclist, who was killed by a drunk driver. The event is a project
of the Broome County STOP-DWI Program to heighten awareness about the
drunk-driving problem. The race attracts over 1,500 participants from
local athletes to world-class competitors with crowds of over 10,000
spectators. The Chris Thater Memorial consists of the Pro, Elite and
Novice cycling events, and a national class 5K Run.
